Unforseen Hiatus

There has been a long pause in my posts (I can't even say recently, because it has been that long) my last post was in March 2016, but honestly I have a good reason if you're prepared to hear it okay... Brace yourselves.

2016 was the year that I realised I still wanted to study I had left university as an undergraduate, it had been three years and I felt I still wasn't on my way to getting a full time junior design job or something similar. I had interviews (and plenty of them) and I've even documented how many I've had since leaving university and how many actually offered me a position (the numbers ain't pretty). Though a lot of the positions were saying the same thing that I don't have enough experience etc as you may have already read from earlier posts. But anyway I was in a bit of confusion because I said I didn't want to go back to university EVER again, I just felt it wasn't needed and of course I was mainly thinking about the debt I'd slide further into, however something in me changed.

I found myself really keen on wanting to go back and do a postgraduate degree, I wanted to be sure design is what I wanted to do and not just some envisioned fantasy. So I took the leap, after visiting a few open days, writing several versions of my personal statement and getting the required number of references from both lecturers and previous employers I sent off my applications to: University for the Creative Arts - MA Graphic Design, University of Westminster - MA Design for Communication, Ravensbourne - MA Communication Design and University of West London - Advertising, Branding and communication all universities offered me a place except for Ravensbourne... they didn't even respond to my application :s.

So I spent Sept 2016 - Sept 2017 doing my masters at University of Westminster, I picked UoW
(yeah that's what they call it) because of the syllabus, description and recommendation. I had actually missed the open day for UoW but having read and emailed the course leader I got a strong assurance that this is where I needed to be, also funnily enough UoW was recommended by the course leader at University for the Creative Arts so once again I felt I was being called to study at Uow. In the end I am so glad I chose University of Westminster because I thoroughly enjoyed this course, the people, the assignments, the theory, the practical, the lecturers and the overall aspect of the course. I don't think I've ever had so much fun studying, learning new skills and feeling self-assured and confident in myself, so honestly speaking I think going back to university has been one of the most well informed decisions I've made recently.

Of course now is actually where the hard work begins, it's up to me to get a job doing what I love but for once I feel prepared and ready to continue with what direction my career will take me.
