Interview - Marketing & Design Junior

Okay we are in the new year now and I thought it would be positive to start off with a positive which leads me to this post. So I have a friend (who I've known since secondary school) who informed me of a marketing & junior designer vacancy at his place a rule I tend to hear so often is 'it's now what you know but who you know' which I felt was directly applicable to this situation.

So with that information I decided to apply for the position, lo and behold I had an interview with Aegis Vision Limited (the company) it was literally all thanks to my friends referral and making me aware of the position in the first place! I didn't feel this interview was as tough as some of the other interviews I had towards the end of 2015, but that could have been me getting use to the idea of being interviewed a bit more frequently or being well prepared for what I know is to come or perhaps a combination of both. The interview went well I believe the company liked my work and they felt I was ambitious if I was successful in the interview they would set me a brief to do by a deadline and if they liked it then I would go through to seeing the CEO. I did the brief and sent it to them before the deadline (exactly to a minute). They didn't actually specify if they received the files but I can only assume they did as I wasn't successful this time round. They didn't give me any feedback this time so it has left me with a state of constantly questioning myself with things like what if I had done this or had done that etc. But in the end I had to just let it go, there will be plenty of times where companies don't give any sort of feedback that is something I've learned to just accept.

Below is some of the pieces of work I had produced for the company:

Take several of our existing products from the website to from a promotional campaign  (www.uunique.uk.com)
  • Find a connection and create a tagline – explain briefly your target audience and why you choose the tagline & campaign.

Alongside the campaign was the brief explanation: My target audience for this campaign isn't restricted by age because I felt everyone is unique or special in their own way so limiting the target audience for this campaign might not be the best idea for what I wish to achieve. However the main audience are people who like to be considered quirky, unique, uncommon, unusual which can be anyone. They specifically go out of their way to stand out from the crowd which is where the idea for the strap-line 'SEPARATE YOUR STYLE' came into play I felt it added unison so the overall campaign and the products itself . Whether it be shoelaces, hair colour, piercings, wrist bands, friendship bracelets, or other types of fashion accessories that represents an individuals identity. Phone cases, wallets and weave straps can now be added to that persona.

  •  Create a graphic to be used on a PPC website to encourage click to buy.

  • With the same theme/campaign create a product promotional e-newsletter /mailshot to be sent to our web subscribers.

These were just some of the tasks they had asked me to do and the final pieces I had produced for them. As previously mentioned I didn't actually receive any feedback on both the interview and the work I had produced for them I have tried to ask a few times for feedback but it has been to no avail. Personally speaking I felt the role wasn't actually suited to the all skills I posses and from the interview itself I felt it was more focused on the marketing and social media aspect of the role as opposed to the design. I know I have little experience in marketing so I can only assume that would be along the lines of the feedback I would've got but I will never know it would seem.

Even though I didn't get this position I felt I have started the year off on a positive, to be able to get an interview in January has kind of set the tone for the year for me and I really hope there is more where this came from.
